Richmond Primary School Newsletter 10th April 2024
Principal's Address
Dear Families,
Thank you to all the families who came along for our second colour run on Thursday 28th March, at Richmond Primary. The beautiful still autumn afternoon made for a great day for our students who thoroughly enjoyed the event. I would like to thank the School Association for providing the BBQ and in particular Andrea, Jessie and Gavin for cooking and preparing the lunch for many of our students. I would also like to thank the parents who helped throw the colour.
The Colour Run is one event supported by our School Association. The Association are always looking for volunteers to support various efforts across the school. So please don’t hesitate to contact any of the committee members.

Congratulations to the students who recently represented our school at the Division C Interschool Athletics Carnival on the Domain on Wednesday 3rd. The students performed admirably both on and off the field, with teachers receiving compliments on how well our students behaved across the day.
The results for Division C were as follows.
Brighton A. 310 points, Lindisfarne North 299 points, Albuera Street 292 points, Mt Nelson 247 points, Richmond (Fifth Place) 240 points, Windemere 232, New Town 220, Rosetta 219.
These results were outstanding considering the size of several schools we were competing against.

Congratulations also goes to those students selected to compete at the Champions Carnival on Wednesday May 1st:

I am sure you will join me in wishing them well in this next level of competition.
Recent School Association Elections:
Firstly, I want to thank the outgoing committee members Andrea Easton (Secretary) and Rebecca Jones (Chairperson) for their outstanding work whilst on the committee. Both Andrea and Beck worked tirelessly to fund raise and to build the sense of community here at Richmond Primary School through events such as the Lantern Walk, The Colour Run, numerous sausage sizzles and fund raisers. I thank them for their commitment to our school and look forward to continuing to work with them to build and prompt our school community.
The 2024 committee is comprised of:
- Hannah Direen - Chairperson
- Lee Miezitis – Vice Chairperson
- Jesse King-Bird - Secretary
- Jess Phillips – Treasurer
- Andrea Easton - Parent Representative
- Billie Cusick – Parent Representative
- Jonna Vennola – Parent Representative
- Rebecca Jones - Parent Representative (Lantern Walk)
- Allison Scott – Staff Representative
- Clare McVilly – Principal
I look forward to what we can achieve working together in 2024.
Visitors to our school – a reminder.
There are new requirements for all volunteers who visit schools across Tasmania. This includes helpers at excursions, and in class and School Association volunteers who are at school interacting with children. Everyone now needs to complete a mandatory safeguarding module and provide the certificate to the office before they can volunteer.
For more information and to complete the safeguarding training, please visit:
- The DECYP website
- Safeguarding Training - Department for Education, Children and Young People (decyp.tas.gov.au)
- Click on Volunteers and Service Providers section.
You can also complete the Safeguarding Training at school for any parent/carers who do not have access to a computer at home. Please contact the office to make an appointment to complete the training at school.
REGISTRATION TO WORK WITH VULNERABLE PEOPLE - RWVP
The purpose of our Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) Policy is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in our schools and other premises. A copy of the policy is below for your perusal. All employees, volunteers, contractors, external providers, or persons engaged in or associated with a child regulated activity, must maintain a current Tasmanian RWVP. This policy places children at the centre of the requirements under the policy and compliance with the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013. RWVP is the best screening tool available to us to screen those requiring access to our schools and to ensure all children and young people are known, safe, well and learning. All volunteers must ensure that they present both RWVP card and Safeguarding Certificate to the office each time they attend the school.
Note: there are some circumstances where RWVP is not required, such as dropping off/collecting a child, delivering goods, assemblies, and events, and attending parent/teacher meetings.
As the holidays are fast approaching, I have included some ideas from the Move Well, Eat Well website to inspire you.

Last day of Term Friday 12th April
Regards,
Clare McVilly
Term 1 in PREP
Easter Wonderings
After discussions about the Easter Bunny we wrote our wonderings about the Easter Bunny – some students wondered about his appearance, likes and dislikes, and hobbies. Students drew pictures to illustrate their thoughts.

Easter Writing
We had lots to share following the Easter break, students used their letter and sound knowledge, sounding out and writing words about their weekend. Following this, students drew amazing pictures to match what they had written.

Maths Groups
We have been looking at ways to represent numbers in Prep. In teams we made collections of a specific number, using strategies including lining up items, grouping into halves, and using addition sums to show our number.
