Dear Families,
I think you will all agreed this has been a very busy term.
Firstly, I wish to thank Variety Tasmania for their donation that has allowed us to purchase an all-ability swing so that all students in our school can access the swings.

Variety – is a Children’s Charity that supports children and families who are facing many challenges through sickness, disadvantage or living with additional needs.
Their work allows children to gain mobility, to get out and about in the community, to communicate, achieve independence and increase their self-esteem. Their work helps children with disabilities to join in and this swing is just one example of the work they do in communities across Tasmania.
So, a huge THANK YOU to Variety Tasmania.
Swimming Carnival
Next week we have our annual Swimming Carnival at Clarence Pool commencing at 10.30 am for students in Years 3 - 6. Last year we included novelty events in the program, and they will feature again this year. So, if your child is reluctant to perform in the swimming races, please encourage them to come along for the fun novelty events. Engagement in swimming events, either carnivals or learn to swim campaigns is an area that is in decline across the state. As an island state surrounded by water, it is very important that our children learn to swim and are comfortable in the water. So please help us to have full engagement at these events by ensuring that your child comes to school.
Book Week at Richmond
Book Week is arguably the biggest event in the school library calendar. Book Week gives us an excuse to celebrate reading, Australian literature, school libraries and the people who bring books to children – from parents, teachers and beyond.
The theme for Book Week 2024 this year was Reading is Magic and we celebrated with our biannual Pyjama Day. Our students came along in their comfy pyjamas and brought along their favourite book to share with their buddy during the day.

The artwork was from the artist and illustrator Jess Racklyeft, who illustrated the 2022 CBCA Picture Book of the Year Iceberg that was written by Claire Saxby. Every year since 1987 the CBCA has chosen a Book Week Theme to inspire teachers, librarians and children.

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students
feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Year/s 4 – 6 at Richmond Primary will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey over the coming week.
The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy and will be undertaken during the Digital Technology session during week 7 for all students in years 4, 5 and 6.
The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
If you would like further information, please contact the school office.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and can flourish, so they can engage in learning.
Regards
Clare McVilly

Sorell High School
Science fair.
By Stella B
On Thursday the 8th of August 2024 classes 5/6A and 5/6B travelled by bus into Sorell to attend the Sorell High School science fair. The Sorell High School year 9’s were exhibiting several science booths to look at.
At the start we were all given a popsicle stick with a booth on it. Then we were mixed with another school (Dodges Ferry Primary School) and went around to look at all the science booths.
Here is a list of some of the science booths:
Marshmallow putty, sherbet, honeycomb, ice-cream, and even lip balm!
At the end of the science fair, we were given a booklet of all the experiments and went back to school, satisfied and a little smarter than we were before we went.
