Richmond Primary School Newsletter 6th November 2024
Principal's Address
Dear Families,
Today we had forty students attend the Division C Swimming Carnival at the Aquatic Centre in Hobart. They were all able to represent our school in our new representative tops funded jointly by the school and the School Association. I think you will agree that the new tops look very smart.

SWES results for 2024
Here is a snapshot of some of the results from the recent Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey that students from Year 4 - 6 completed in term 3. Following last year’s survey, we have had a big focus on belonging and building that sense of connection to community here at Richmond Primary School.
- 93% of students felt connected to an adult at school.
- 74% of students reported that they had an important adult at school.
- 85% of students reported feeling safe at school.
- 91% of students reported the absence of physical bullying.
- 79% of students reported the absence of verbal bullying.
- 94% of students reported medium to high levels of happiness.
- 57% of students reported medium to low levels of sleep.
Sleep issues are a growing concern for some of our students and I have included some information on sleep hygiene from Queensland Health to help parents address this issue if it is a concern in your home.
The other data sets collected during term 3 were the staff and family satisfaction surveys. Twenty-nine families responded to the survey and nineteen staff members responded.

As you can see from the graphs above, we are outperforming other government schools in Tasmania, but as with any data set there is always room for improvement. In both surveys the biggest area of concern is the maintenance of the physical environment of the school. The playground / play equipment being the main cause of concern. We are currently writing a grant proposal to begin to address this issue.
Lisa Ford – Clinical Psychologist
Lisa will be holding her next parent information session on Thursday 14th November from 6 – 7.30 pm.
The topic for discussion is the importance of building resilience in children as a key part of their wellbeing, good mental health and happiness.
Lisa will outline simple and practical steps to help your children thrive and will explain ways to support resilience development through everyday interactions with your child. Teaching children to ‘bounce forward ‘from stressors and develop greater coping and problem-solving skills and to develop their independence.
Thanks to those parents who have already registered to attend. Please contact Kate in the office if you wish to attend. This is a free event sponsored by the School Association.
Early Years Athletics Carnival
On Thursday, November 7th (tomorrow), we will be holding our K - 2 Athletics Carnival at the Richmond Football Ground from 1 – 2.30 pm. This fun event focuses on participation for all.
Parents are welcome to join us, but I ask that parents remain behind the oval fence while the running events are held. This helps with the smooth delivery of the program.
Regards
Clare
This piece of writing is from Sienna C. Sienna was exploring the word periphery as part of her spelling program.
She applied her understanding to this generous descriptive writing.

5/6A
On Friday 1st November, Grade 5/6A went on a local excursion to the Old Hobart Town Model Village. The Richmond attraction replicates in miniature the life and history of Hobart town in the 1820’s, focusing on Sullivan’s Cove, Hunter Island, the Hobart Rivulet, and Hobart town.
Children worked in groups to complete a scavenger hunt, finding out many interesting facts along the way. We were also treated to a visit at Sweets and Treats, where the children purchased some goodies to help keep those energy levels up. Thank you to Jordyn Banks for helping us out on the day.
