Richmond Primary School Newsletter Wednesday 7th May 2025
Principal's Address
Welcome Back to Term 2!
We hope you all had a fantastic break and are ready for another exciting term of learning and fun.
School Association Meeting – School Camp
Last Thursday evening, the School Association held their second meeting of the year. The committee, a dedicated and enthusiastic group, discussed several excellent ideas for positively advancing the school.
Congratulations to Kate Jones and Emily Orbell who were elected to the shared position of secretary on the committee.
One key point of discussion was the reinstatement of school camps. The committee unanimously voted in favour of organizing a two-night camp for all students in Years 5 and 6 in 2026.
In response, the school will soon send out detailed information about the camp, which will be held at the Spring Beach Youth Camp. The estimated cost is around $300 – $320 per student, with a payment plan option available for families.
We look forward to this exciting opportunity for our students!
Congratulations to the School Association on their very successful Democracy Sausage Sizzle held on Saturday in conjunction with the Federal election. Thank you to everyone who dropped off baked goods and volunteered their time. The Committee raised $2,395.35.

ANZAC Day
We would like to acknowledge and thank our school captains, Emily and Angus, and vice-captain Humphrey, who represented our school so admirably at the Richmond ANZAC Day service held at the War Memorial in the town centre. Special thanks to Mrs. Jan Ross for organizing the beautiful wreath. Thanks also to Charlotte and Charlotte, Kyson, Georgie and Audrey who handed out the rosemary sprigs to the gathered crowd.
It was wonderful to see so many families at this service, recognizing the sacrifices made by past and currently serving service personnel.
Athletics Carnivals
Recently, Richmond Primary competed in the Division C interschool Athletics Carnival, where the team won the event by 1 point. Twenty-six students were then invited to attend the Champions Carnival on Friday, April 11th. They represented our school with pride and to the best of their abilities. Two students Tim and Milo have been invited to attend the State Champions Carnival to be held at St Leonards Athletic Centre on Friday, May 9th. I’m sure you all join me is wishing them well for this prestigious event.

Make Each Day Count
As Term 2 kicks off, we wanted to share a timely reminder about the importance of school attendance.
We love seeing your child at school every day – it’s the best place for them to learn and grow. It’s a chance to be around their friends, learn new things (including life skills), spark their curiosity and have fun.
Term 2 is packed with exciting things your child won’t want to miss: assemblies, National Walk Safely to School Day, the cross country, the Lantern Walk just to name a few events in this term.
For tips on creating positive attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help and support is available.

Launching into Learning – Mondays
We run our Launching into Learning (LiL) program on Mondays at 9:15 - 10:30am. LiL is a free program where you and your child can get to know our school and meet other families. It is a great way to connect to learning. It is for families with children from birth to 4 years of age and any children who are currently attending our kindergarten in 2025.

Autumn Poems from Isla and Julian
In Autumn I see leaves falling and ice.
In the autumn I hear the crackling of the leaves and tweeting birds in the tree.
In the Autumn I taste the very cold air around me.
In the Autumn I smell smoking, old leaves.
In the Autumn I feel frost on my window.
Isla
In the Autumn I see the cold water, the beautiful leaves, the frost on the grass and the snow on Mount Wellington.
In the Autumn I hear the crashing leaves, the animals finding a warm place to sleep, the thunder.
In Autmn I taste the cold air and frost.
In Autumn I smell the frost and the snow.
In Autumn I feel the cold air, the leaves falling and the cold water of the sea.
Julian
Grade 6 Hoodies
The grade 6 hoodies have arrived, and the students are buzzing with excitement!
These hoodies are not just any ordinary hoodies; they are a special part of the students' final year in primary school.
It's a wonderful keepsake that the students can cherish for years to come, reminding them of their time at Richmond Primary and the friends they made along the way.

5/6B News
On May 1st, the 5/6 classes visited Parliament House for an excursion. We explored both the House of Representatives and the Legislative Council. During our visit, we participated in a role play in the House of Representatives, which helped us understand how laws are made and the various roles in parliament. We also had the opportunity to meet Andrew Jenner, our local representative. He delivered an inspiring speech and answered our questions.
It was a fantastic day!
