Term 2 in Prep
In Prep, we have been learning about Connecting to Country. We went on an excursion to the Sustainability Centre, where we enjoyed a variety of activities, including a nature walk during which we had the chance to try some native bush foods. We also explored the grounds and deepened our understanding of the environment. We used the outdoor fire to make our own charcoal pencils and used them to express our experiences through drawing.

A few weeks ago, we went on an excursion to the museum and had a fantastic time exploring all the fascinating information about Antarctica. When we returned to class, we shared our favorite facts and even conducted some of our own research about this incredible place. We also created our own penguin artwork, bringing the experience to life!

Kinder Community Excursion
As part of our focus on community connection, our Kinder group set off into the Richmond Community to visit some of our important local places. We visited the Margaret Mitchell memorial park, the Bakery, The Richmond Bridge, the IGA, the Post Office, the Village Green Park and the Lolly Shop. We were very grateful to all of the local places that hosted us. The Bakery and the Coulson family supplied us with biscuits to decorate for morning tea and the Bridge St Café supplied us a delicious lunch of hot chips.

Storytime. Anytime.
We are delighted to let you know that Richmond Primary School now has access to StoryBox Library, as part of the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s Lifting Literacy initiative! Follow the steps below to login and start engaging your children with a diverse range of Australian children's literature read aloud by fabulous storytellers:
1. Go to: https://storyboxhub.com/login
2. Sign in with:
Username: tasliftrichmondprimary
Password: richmondprimary
3. Select the Browse Stories tab and start exploring!
Reading aloud to children, in particular by diverse and engaging storytellers, greatly improves language and literacy skills, especially in the early years of a child’s development. Sadly, studies show that many children are not read to frequently enough.
Since 2013, Story Box Library has been committed to supporting and encouraging the practice of storytelling. It is intended for use as a complementary form of delivering the precious experience of being read aloud to, in order to improve children’s lives. We connect children with literature through the complementary medium of film providing a vibrant, interactive experience via a diverse range of everyday storytellers - sportspeople, musicians, grandparents, teenagers, comedians, actors, with varying accents and from different cultures - each sharing past and present book titles.
Use it as a bedtime tale, a facilitator for discussion in the classroom, or a read aloud model - the choice is yours. No matter what the reason for your visit to Story Box Library, we help get kids excited about reading, inspire their imaginations, and let them have fun with stories.

Symmons Plains Cross Country
Richmond students have certainly done a fabulous job with their distance running in recent weeks.
We had a number of students who travelled up to Symmons Plains to take on the best runners from around the state.
The students had to confront cold, windy and muddy conditions. The grade 3 and 4 students had to run 2km with the grade 5 and 6 students having to run 3km.
The following students did a terrific job representing our school:
Cooper
Henry
Scarlett
Grace
Sam
Ryan
Bailey
Archie
Elizabeth
Theo
Georgia W
Zoe
Thanks to all the parents who took our students up on the day.
