Richmond Primary School Newsletter Wednesday 13th August 2025
Principal's Address
Dear Families,
The term is flying by.
Swimming and Water Safety Program
The Swimming and Water Safety Program has commenced for our Year 3-5 students, and this year we are at the Clarence Pool. The bigger pool allows for a more relaxed approach, and from what I have observed, the students are far more active, spending more time in the water during lessons. This has been very pleasing and provides a better experience for the students.
Book Week and Open Morning at Richmond

Book Week is arguably the biggest event in the school library calendar. Book Week gives us an excuse to celebrate reading, Australian literature, school libraries and the people who bring books to children – from parents, teachers and beyond.
The theme for Book Week 2025 is Book an Adventure, which we will be celebrating with our biannual Book Week Parade on Wednesday 20th August, where the children are encouraged to dress as their favourite book character.
We will be holding an open morning to celebrate the work we do across the school in English including reading, writing, speaking and listening. Parents are invited to an information session that will be held in the staff room from 8.30 – 9.00 followed by the parade and an opportunity to visit classrooms after the parade.
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey

In the coming weeks our students in years 4 – 6 will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The reason we undertake the survey is because the wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students
feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy and will be undertaken during the Digital Technology session during week 7 for all students in years 4, 5 and 6.
The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
Information for those engaging in the survey has come home this week, however if you would like further information, please contact the school office.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and can flourish, so they can engage in learning.
Quiz Night
On Friday 22nd August the School Association will be holding a quiz night from 6 – 9.30 pm.
This is the first quiz night the Association has held in over ten years, so I encourage you to come along and enjoy an evening of fun. I hope to see many of you there.
Regards,
Clare McVilly

Term 3 in 1/2A

This term in 1/2A, we've been busy exploring two exciting areas of Maths - Money and Equal Groups!
In our work with equal groups, we've been discovering how to share items fairly and create groups with the same number of objects. To help us understand these concepts, we've used a variety of hands-on tools like counters and whiteboards.
A highlight was reading The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins, which helped us think about sharing cookies equally—though we had to settle for paper ones!
Our money unit has been just as fun and practical. We've introduced a classroom rewards system where students can earn $1 or $2 for positive behaviour and achievements. These earnings can be used to purchase a ‘Golden Ticket’ for our end-of-term movie with treats, and then saved up for other classroom rewards. Through this system, students have been learning to identify Australian coins and notes, calculate totals, and make purchases—just like in real life! We've even played shop to practise using money in everyday scenarios.
It’s been a fantastic term so far, full of hands-on learning and real-world connections!

Checking in with 3/4A
At the end of Term 2, the students spent time using their creativity to draw their own treehouse. They followed a directed drawing video, then added their own personal touches.

Students can enter either in a team or as an individual.
Entry forms are available from the school office now.
