Richmond Primary School Newsletter Wednesday 27th August 2025
Principal's Address
Dear Families,
Book Week was celebrated last Wednesday with much fun and lots of thought put into costumes, thanks parents. This year’s Book Week theme was Book an Adventure.

The feature artist for the year, Jess McGeachin, has brilliantly captured this adventurous spirit in his artwork, which features a whimsical map filled with imaginary characters. Jess’ illustration invites young readers to embark on fantastical journeys, inspiring them to travel through the worlds that books open up. As an award-winning Australian picture book illustrator, Jess’ work encourages children to imagine, explore, and create their own adventures.

A big thank you to Mrs Jaqui Mason for leading our parent information session on the morning discussing Literacy at Richmond Primary School. We truly appreciate the parents who took the time to attend and learn more about how we support literacy development across the school.
We were thrilled with the fantastic turnout for the Book Week parade, and it was wonderful to see so many families join us for our open morning. Teachers across the school proudly showcased the engaging and meaningful ways we are helping our students become confident, capable, and enthusiastic readers and writers—ready to thrive in the wider world. Thank you to our wonderful staff who daily support our students to be their best.

Sun Smart Policy
We have recently reviewed and renewed our SunSmart agreement with the Cancer Council Tasmania. As part of this update, we are sharing the revised SunSmart policy with families—please find the attached document for your reference.
This is also a timely reminder that, in line with our policy, all students will be required to wear sun hats from Monday, 1st September. We kindly ask families to locate and prepare hats ahead of this date to ensure students are ready to participate safely in outdoor activities.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school SunSmart.

SURVEY SEASON
It is survey season in the DECYP, the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey will be undertaken here at school, we are asking families for feedback on the school via the Families Satisfaction Survey and the staff are also undertaking a satisfaction survey. All this information gathering helps us to support our students, and focus on the areas of improvement needed, while celebrating those things we are doing well.

Attention: Parents and Carers of students in Year 4, 5 and 6
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
At Richmond Primary School, the wellbeing of our students is a top priority. We want to hear directly from our students about how they’re feeling and what’s happening in their lives.
Students in Year/s 4, 5 and 6 will soon be participating in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This important survey helps us build a clear picture of our students’ current wellbeing and identify ways we can better support them to thrive and engage in learning. The more students who take part, the more meaningful the insights will be.
This survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
Survey Details:
When: During week 6 - 25th – 29th August
Who: Year’s 4, 5 and 6
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4, 5 and 6 students. This includes a list of Frequently Asked Questions and a form to return if you do not want your child to participate.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the school office Ph 6260 2191
Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
2025 Families School Satisfaction Survey - Reminder
Richmond Primary School
The 2025 School Satisfaction Survey is open!
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school improvement planning and decision-making.
If you have not had the opportunity to complete the survey about Richmond Primary School yet, it is open until Friday 19 September 2025 and should take about 5 minutes of your time.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey.
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/AVFcYqxGEW
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact your school if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
Last week, Rebecca and Isla wowed me with their beautifully written recount of the story Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl— the detail they included was simply delightful and showed such thoughtful engagement.
Since then, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of seeing even more fantastic work from the class. It’s clear they’ve been captivated by the story — their enthusiasm and creativity shine through in everything they’ve produced. What a joy it’s been to witness their love of reading come to life!

Regards,
Clare McVilly

What's been happening in Kinder?
We’ve had a very busy start to Term 3 beginning with an inquiry into where our food comes from. We began by investigating bees and learning about the role of bees in growing our food. We had an amazing visit from Anita from the Tasmanian Junior Beekeepers. We loved the interactive experiences she provided, and we especially loved tasting the delicious leatherwood honey! Liam’s Mummy, Maya came into Kinder, and we made some delicious honey cookies.

We had a fabulous time in Kinder enjoying all things Book Week.
We welcomed our families into our Kinder space and shared some literacy activities with them.

Term 3 in Prep
In Prep, we had a fantastic time celebrating Science Week!
Each day, we explored a new experiment, making predictions beforehand and documenting our discoveries afterward.
We created erupting volcanoes, made our own ice cream, experimented with colour mixing, and so much more.

In Prep, we’ve been deepening our understanding of the Zones of Regulation.
We have been busy creating our own regulation toolboxes—filled with strategies to help us return to the green zone when needed.
One of the highlights has been playing “What Zone Am I?”, where students express an emotion through facial expressions and the class guesses which zone they’re pretending to be. It’s been a fun and interactive way to build emotional awareness.
We also created our very own emotions tree, decorated with lots of creative expressions.
