Richmond Primary School Newsletter 30th August 2023
Principal's Address
Dear Families,
Today we had the opportunity to acknowledge, appreciate and recognise the positive impact teacher assistants have on the lives of students, teachers, and families.
We are very fortunate here at Richmond Primary to have an incredibly dedicated team of teacher assistants. We are extremely grateful to them for their commitment, support and professionalism.
Thank you to Chris, Josette, Jane, Kerrie, Madason and Caelan for all the work you do to support our students and staff.

Book Week at RPS
Book Week is arguably the biggest event in the school library calendar. Book Week gives us an excuse to celebrate reading, Australian literature, school libraries and the people who bring books to children – from parents, teachers and beyond.
The theme for Book Week 2023 this year was Read, Grow, Inspire.
Thank you to parents who prepared costumes for the day. It was greatly appreciated and showed tremendous imagination.

A silent disco is a disco where the students dance to music listened to on wireless headphones. Rather than using the traditional speaker system, music is broadcast via a tansmitter with the signal being picked up by the wireless headphones worn by the students. The students have a choice of 3 channels, they can select their own music and a comfortable volume.
This type of disco is very inclusive allowing all students to enjoy the event even those who are noise adverse. As you can see by the photos, it was an event clearly enjoyed by everyone.
A big THANK YOU to our wonderful volunteers who prepared the lunch for our students Billie, Bec and Andrea. Cooking over 200 sausages and having them all ready to go at the end of the disco was no small feat.
Another BIG THANK YOU goes out to Kosta from IGA Richmond, for very generously donating us the sausages and bread. We really appreciate your support of our school.
Thank you all.
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
![](https://richmondprimary.schoolzineplus.com/_file/media/526/wellbeing.png)
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Year/s 4–6 at Richmond Primary will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey.
The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy. The survey will be undertaken during the Digital Technology session during week 7 for all students in years 4, 5 and 6
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4, 5 and 6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey. If you would like further information, please contact the school office.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
The 2023 School Satisfaction Survey is open!
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school improvement planning and decision-making.
If you have not had the opportunity to complete the survey about Richmond Primary School yet, it is open until Friday 22 September 2023 and should take about 5 minutes of your time.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Please follow the link below to take the survey:
https://ncv.microsoft.com/cxd7xm4TD2
Information providing the link to the survey will also be sent home tomorrow with your eldest child.
Regards

Kinder News
M is for monkey – Children enjoyed creating Monkeys when our letter of the week focus was the letter m. Children are getting very clever to recognise both the letter and sounds of the alphabet.

Daffodil painting – Children used their skills to draw what they saw in the middle of the art table – being a green vase with 5 daffodils flowers.

Book week was an amazing day and enjoyed by everyone involved. What amazing dress ups for our very first book week.

During Book Week the early years Digital Technology classes looked at the Early Childhood Book of the Year Where the Lyrebird Lives by Vikky Conley and Max Hamilton. Students used the computers to find information about the text and completed an online puzzle and memory game.
Students in grades 3-4 continued their work on sequencing steps and writing algorithms to code our edison robots. A focus for the lesson was to work on troubleshooting before saying ‘it doesn’t work’. Most students were able to solve their problems and have Edison follow their directions.
Bunnings Hammer Program
Over the last four weeks, some students have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Lindy from Bunnings, participating in the Hammer Program. Each week students completed a short project, focusing on a range of skills requiring planning, coordination, effective tool use and fine motor skills.
Based on the conversations and smiles on everyone’s face each time a project was completed, I think it is safe to say it was enjoyed by everyone.
"It was fun. I liked building with the nails and making the toolboxes and learning how to use the equipment safely." - Hunter
"It was good, especially building your own toolbox. The hands-on build your own thing was great." Lachie
"It was a great experience. I hope I can do it next year." Max
"It was fun! It was good to do something different." Oliver
We plan to continue developing this program with some students being involved in small projects as part of their individual learning programs. Some items we hope to make include bird feeders and small bird houses. If anyone has any surplus hand tools, timber (including offcuts) or paints/vanish they would like to donate, we would be very grateful.
Please get in touch with me if you think you may be able to help us out.
