Brixhibition - 28th August - 1st September
Principal's Address
Dear Families,
I can’t believe we are already in week four of term three! The term has started well and looks to be a very busy one with Science Week, Bullying. No Way! Day, Book Week, 5/6 Winter Sports, Brixhibition, Silent Disco, 3-6 Swimming Carnival, just to name a few. Please check Seesaw, Facebook, our School Calendar on SZapp and the newsletter for upcoming events.
Please remember that we have two more whole school assemblies this term, on Tuesday 5th September and Tuesday 19th September.
Mrs Amanda Whittle has made the difficult decision to step back from her co teaching role. We would like to thank her for the dedication and support she has given to our 1/2 classes and wider school community over the last two terms. Enjoy having more time with your family and doing the things you love and we hope to see you in a relief capacity soon. Mrs Alysha McCarthy on Thursdays and Miss Bridie Taylor on Fridays will be replacing Mrs Whittle.
Our Book Week Parade is next Wednesday 23rd August, starting at 9am. We will be starting outside the Prep classroom and doing a lap of the playground/walkway to the hall. Please see a map below.
Over the next couple of weeks, we are focussing as a school on kindness. Kindness can be shown in many ways, helping one another, compliments, including others in games and the list goes on. It’s been wonderful to see already the acts of kindness shown by some of our students.
Acts of Kindness | |
Kindergarten | Loralai R |
Prep | Emily P |
1/2 A | Kyeden F |
1/2 B | Milo C, Ivy F, Lucy J |
3/4 A | Isla B |
3/4 B | Benji W |
5/6 A | Mackenzie L |
5/6 B | Amelia G |
Finally, please ensure that if your child is unwell or unable to attend school for any reason, that you contact the school office to inform staff as soon as possible and remember that every school day matters!
Thank you,
Jaqui Mason
Acting Principal

Cultural Safety and Valuing Diversity - Parent Survey
All staff at Richmond Primary School have been engaged in Cultural Safety & Valuing Diversity training sessions run by Working it Out.
Working it Out is Tasmania’s gender, sexuality and intersex status support and education service and have worked with DECYP for over 20 years.
As part of our work in creating a school community rich with inclusion and reduced stigma, we are seeking expressions of interest from families in our community who would be interested in a community session exploring the Valuing Diversity Framework. The framework takes a whole of school approach to educate and inspire schools to be safe and inclusive.
Would you be interested in a community session run by Working It Out?
Please follow the link to our survey:
Bicentenary Banners
A small group of students from Richmond and St Johns Primary Schools have been fortunate enough to be working with Mrs Jan Ross and Mrs Ros Hey, painting banners for the upcoming Richmond Bicentenary Parade in early December. We feel very fortunate to be involved in this celebration!

Our Kitchen Garden program were one of the lucky recipients of a $250 voucher, donated from the IGA Community Chest. We would like to thank Kosta from IGA Richmond for nominating our program.
Then and Now
1/2A and 1/2B are learning about what life was like in the past. We enjoyed a local excursion to the historic Oak Lodge, where we were transported back in time to see what life was like in the 1800s.
We enjoyed sitting in the old school desks, exploring the doctors consulting room and wandering the gardens searching for acorns.

Maths in 1/2
In Grade 1/2 Maths we have been working on our multiplicative skills. This is building our ability to solve a range of problems involving multiplication and division. We have been learning about equal groups, arrays, skip counting, repeated addition and the symbols used for multiplying and dividing. Some fun activities have included taking photos of arrays around our school environment, making arrays with fruit loops and creating an aquarium with a range of equally grouped animals.

We learned about the magnetic field around earth, the tectonic plates and how Antarctic used to be joined to Australia. We also learned about the food chain in Antarctica with krill being one of the main food sources.
